Efficiently Converting EAV to Flat Tables in Magento

I’m in the middle of a Magento project that involves tens of thousands of products, and hundreds of filterable attributes to be used in Layered Navigation. Those filterable attributes will be continually added to over time.

Building a Magento-style layout engine for your Zend Framework Library

One of the most difficult things for the newcomer to Magento theming to come to grips with is often the xml- and block-based layout engine. After a few years, this same person might wonder how they could live without the flexibility that comes from being able to to create blocks and move them around the layout with relative ease.

At least, that’s what I thought, which prompted me to start implementing something similar to Magento’s layout engine in my standard library for Zend Framework projects. Continue reading
